Your mom always told you that you can never be too safe. Well, the De Anza College administration feels the same way. From giving away free Band-Aids to walking you to your car, De Anza wants to keep you safe and in the know. In addition to the De Anza Student Health Services and the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Police Department, the school provides martial arts, self-defense, first aid, life guarding, and health and wellness classes in the physical education department.

FIRST AID STATION

Student Health Services is located in the Hinson Campus Center and is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Whenever Health Services is open, the first aid station offers Band-Aids, first aid supplies, over the counter medicines, contact solution, condoms and tampons and more - all for free!

INFORMATION

Health Services can screen you for STDs, do a pregnancy test and provide birth control. They also offer information and educational programs, including weeks that promote AIDS and alcohol awareness and months with health-related themes. If you want to quit smoking, check out their program to help you kick the habit.

DOCTOR! DOCTOR!

Student Health Services offers free tuberculosis testing on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wellness exams, immunizations, prescription drugs and other medical services are offered at a reduced cost for De Anza students.

EMERGENCY PHONES

Emergency and public phones are available throughout campus. When using an emergency phone, your call is automatically forwarded to the De Anza substation. If it is after midnight, dial 911 from a public telephone. Emergency phones are located in parking structures on each level under yellow signs that say “Emergency Phone” and in parking lots B, C and E below blue and white signs that say “Call Box.”

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

If you witness an accident or are injured on campus and you need help, call the De Anza Police Substation emergency line at (408) 864-5555 and an emergency squad will come and help you.

CAR PROBLEMS?

If your car battery is dead on the De Anza campus and your car is packing a 12V battery, sign a wavier and a De Anza police officer will jump it for you. If you are locked out of your car and have manual locks, don’t call that expensive locksmith. Ring the De Anza police substation between 6 a.m. and midnight and an officer will unlock it for you.

SAFETY ESCORT

If you are feeling uneasy about walking and need an escort to your car, call Campus Security at (408) 864-5555. An officer will be glad to walk with you, but notify them five minutes before you need to leave.

PATROLLING AND SURVEILLANCE

The De Anza College campus is patrolled by police officers and by safety, security and traffic control personnel in vehicles, on foot and by bicycle. There is also a surveillance system with cameras set up throughout campus.
