The one guarantee college has to provide

You want to transfer, but struggle every quarter deciding what classes to take. With the number of classes De Anza College offers, even the best student can become confused. Luckily for you, De Anza has a guaranteed transfer program that makes planning your transfer easier. Joining the program is easier than you might think.
A Transfer Admission Agreement or a Transfer Admission Guarantee is a contract between a student, De Anza College and a four-year university. The program guarantees admission to the university to students who successfully complete the transfer plan and meet the university’s admission requirements. The first step students should do is check if they are eligible for the agreement.
The next step is picking a university that De Anza has a transfer agreement with. Meet with a counselor and write an educational plan for your time at De Anza. Educational plans lay out what classes students will take each quarter at De Anza to make the best use of their time and money.
A transfer plan and contract is generally written about a year before the student plans on transferring, but the deadline depends on the university.
The guaranteed transfer program prepares students to transfer on time because the contract requires students to fulfill their educational plan. Even though the guaranteed transfer program is a contract between the student and the transfer university, students are not obligated to complete their transfer plan. Students can only write one transfer plan agreement, but can apply to as many universities as they want. More information about transferring and the transfer agreement is available from De Anza is at http://www.deanza.edu/transfer/.

HOW TO PICK YOUR COLLEGE
Eight things to look out for
when choosing your future college

by Edna Chan

CULTURE

Is it a party school or home for goodie two-shoes?
No matter how great the school is, if you don’t fit
in or simply don’t like the culture, going
there might be the worst decision you make.

SIZE

Size does matter. Do you want teachers to know your name or do you want to merge into the crowd? Do you like everybody knowing your
business or do you prefer going incognito?

TYPE

Public or Private? Can you accept the religious aspect from a non-secular collage? Does the university focus on undergraduates or specialize in graduate research?

LOCATION

What kind of environment would you like to
be in? Do you prefer urban noises and crowded places with discourteous people? Or do you want to hear trees rustling and see open spaces with cows? Can you study if everyone is in a bathing suit?

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

Most of us don’t have it made. Are there various financial aid packages offered? Are your grades or talents
good enough for you to earn scholarship? Residency matters, too, in terms of tuition and financial aid.

STUDENT POPULATION

Do you like studying in a diverse environment? Large schools tend to house students from different backgrounds, where you get to meet all sorts of people, nice and not-so-nice.

MAJORS & REQUIREMENTS

Some schools require specified coursework, while some allow you more variety and selection. Mastering more than one skill will enrich you and lower your risk of unemployment in the future.
